Peruvian Citizenship by Descent
(Nacionalidad por nacimiento – según el artículo 52 de la Constitución Peruana y la Ley 30738, publicada el 14 de marzo de 2018)
Who qualifies?
You may be eligible for Peruvian citizenship by descent if:
You were born abroad, and
At least one of your parents is/was a Peruvian citizen, and
You were registered at a Peruvian consulate, or you register your birth retroactively in Peru
Even if your parent(s) never registered you at a consulate, you can still apply today — but you’ll need to provide official proof of your Peruvian lineage.
In some cases, people with Peruvian grandparents or great-grandparents may qualify, depending on how citizenship was passed down and whether your parent claimed it.
Required Documents
Birth certificate of the applicant (apostilled or legalized)
Peruvian birth certificate or DNI of your Peruvian parent
Applicant’s passport and/or ID
Official declaration or application form
Legalized family connection documents (if applying through grandparent)
Any missing consular registration may need to be replaced by a judicial process or special registration
All foreign documents must be translated into Spanish and legalized or apostilled
